A Flavorful Evening

Written by: Kate Snyder, Development and Donor Communications Coordinator

My humblest apologies for the dearth of posts in the last week. The only time more chaotic than the weeks leading up to a big event is the week right after! But, happily, the dust is settling and I am happy to report that East End Cooperative Ministry's second annual A Flavor of the East End was a rousing success.

I only managed to get a couple pictures but I'm posting them for your enjoyment. Our lovely Mistress of Ceremonies, Danielle Nottingham of WPXI was the thrilled high bidder on a very snazzy Trek bicycle. The Silent Auction and Mystery Box portions of the evening were both well received. The Mystery Boxes raised over $2,000 for EECM's Reach Out to City Kids campaign, which will be matched by a generous anonymous donor for a total of $4,000 raised for our Children & Youth programs. Yay!

My favorite success to report, though, is the Buy It Now section of the auction. We decided to try something new this year and offered four different "Buy It Now" options on the auction table. These were opportunities for people to "sponsor" EECM services and programs. You could "buy" a day of Summer Day Camp, groceries for a Food Pantry family, a mattress for a bed in the homeless shelter, or a month of meals for a client in our Meals on Wheels program. The response was hugely positive -- many thanks to everyone who participated.

Thanks to everyone who attended, sponsored, and made in-kind contributions to this year's A Flavor of the East End. We're already planning next year's soiree so stay tuned.
