Camp Time!

Written by: Dominique Dobson, Children & Youth Department

It’s time for East End Cooperative Ministry''s Summer Day Camp and we are already having the time of our lives! Last week we began our 2010 Day Camp experience, learning about ourselves and each other. Groups were formed, counselors were met, and clinics were chosen. Our overall theme for this year is Fight the Good Fight and Keep the Faith. Campers will learn that even when life throws you challenges we must continue to persevere, fight hard, and know that we will be triumphant in the end.

This week’s theme for Day Camp focuses on the importance of having Self Worth and Responsibility. Knowing one’s importance in today’s communities is critical to succeed in the urban culture of today’s youth, asit gives them the power to stand up for what is right in a society that continues to pressure them to do wrong. Campers will learn the importance of knowing their self-worth and being responsible for their blessings.

This week, campers will continue learning dances, music, and practicing lines for the end-of-camp production. Art projects will include popsicle boxes, plaster fishes, and beading.

Field Trips this week include a trip to the Carnegie Science Center, the Children's Museum, and the Frick Art Museum, time at a bowling alley, and an expedition to the Laurel Caverns to go caving.

Stay tuned as Day Camp continues!
